I feel that I should say something about Ann.  Both of our families moved to new homes in 1954 - so we were 9 years old!  I don't even think there was a fence between our backyards for a few months.  I was at the corner of Morpheus and Ulysses and I honestly can't remember the street up towards Starr King where Ann lived.  We played together a lot and had fun.  Ann was smart and very nice.  I must say, cystic fibrosis was never, ever mentioned to me in all the years I knew her.  I thought she had asthma.  Her parents kept her close to home, and I don't know if it was because they were strict (as I thought at the time) or because of her condition.

When I married in Dec 1963, Ann was one of my bridesmaids.  I lived out of town when I heard she was ill.  I went to visit her in the hospital and she was in good spirits - talking about clothes, make-up, boys; all the things the rest of us went through years before.  It was so good to see her "catching up".

Needless to say, I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing.  She had great potential.  And then to find out (recently) that her brother died of the same disease blew my mind.  How very sad.  I'm sure if she had lived, we would still be friends.  I think of her every now and again with great fondness.
