Tell us about your life since HS graduation

I attended art classes at American River College. I went on a church mission to the UK. I was engaged to a girl for awhile back home. But I joined the Marines and went to Viet Nam. After returning I went to southern California and met my life long companion Kaye Lynn, and we traveled and worked together as students of the school of life in California, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Washington. We brought two daughters into the world and moved back with them to Carmichael in 1986. We have been engaged in the restaurant business, printing and art. We are co-founders of a small k-12 private school that operated for 19 years in Sacramento. We now have 2 granddaughters here in Sacramento.

Where do you live now, and what are your favorite activities at present?

(Carl) David Peterson, a signature member of Northern California Arts, Inc., and a past President of WASH Inc., has paintings in private collections across the country. Since 2002, the artist has been accepted into dozens of state-wide juried shows and has won over 100 awards. He has been accepted into California State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit California State Fair Fine Art Exhibit, Sacramento, 2007, 2009, 2011-2019, 2022. The artist was honored to have been a Yosemite Art Center visiting artist 2012-17.

He was a staff member at Sacramento Fine Arts Center through 2018. He is presently a volunteer at the Arts Center and a Board Member of NCA Inc.  His work can be seen at Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Carmichael, Rancho Cordova City Hall, the MACC and various regional art shows and venues.

The artist portrays the familiar scenes of our neighborhood in a humorous and enigmatic way. He shows you California landmarks, including urban scenes, the American River, and our neighborhood differently, simply and in a unique manner.

Any favorite memories from High School?

I hated high school. I tried to escape many times. John Coates, an art teacher, and a few friends helped me through it.

Can you share any remembrances of favorite teachers/coaches/administrators at ECHS?

I only remember John Coates and John Kaneko. And I remember a very kind Dean of Boys that exercised great patience with me.

Tell us about your family--children, grandchildren?

My oldest daughter lives in Sacramento with 2 daughters. My youngest daughter lives with us. My oldest granddaughter will graduate with honors from El Camino Fundamental in '13.
