Douglas Essary

Doug attended El Camino H.S.with us and lived with his parents on Surita St directly behind Bel Air Market. Doug was very athletic at E.C. and lettered in Track and Field. He went on to Sacramento State College where he Graduated with a major in Business Administration, lettered in Track and Field and actually coached for Joe Ness, the Track Coach at Sac St.. Doug enlisted in the Army and made the rank of Major. He served in Europe and the Phillipines. After 30 years of serviced retired, moved back to Sacramento and coached for several local high schools. He is survived by his daughter. Doug's body was interned at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dixon, Ca.

So sad to hear about Doug's passing. That guy could out run a cheetah!   I witnessed his track expertise after school and couldn't believe how agile he was. Never had contact after I left for college but know he was active for as long as he could . RIP my friend. Another Eagle laid to rest!!

Sorry to learn of the passing of Doug and Ray Hazelwood. I know both a flying 'high like an Eagle' and will be  missed by friends and family. If I'm not mistaken, it appears that Doug passed in 2015. I don't recall hearing anything about it at that time. Gaye Lawrence did not offer a date but her information about his service in the US Army and his coaching career was nice to read about. And he was a Major, to boot. Our grads have excelled in so many careers. Honored to be a member of the Class of '62. Merry Christmas to all and may 2018 be healthy and great for all of you--and your families. .
